Guessing game - Father Vincent Mercer child abuser
You are a priest and a headmaster at a school. You prowl the domitories of the first year boys and sexually abuse six boys. You abuse another two boys on a holiday camp in Cork. You use your position of power to intimidate the boys into silence telling one that his father would lose his job if he told anyone.
As well as that you have previously been found guilty of four counts of sexual abuse on a 13 year old boy and you have spent 6 months in prison.
Now you're in court and you face sentencing for what the judge calls a "reign of terror". Do you:
a:Get a lengthy spell in jail as punishment for your crimes, or:
b: Get off with a 6 month suspended sentence?
If you chose b then you go straight to 'GO', you can collect €200, you can forget about the boys you touched up and you can live with your priest chums in a nice house, with heating, square meals, TV and all other mod-cons.
It's a fucking joke, this country. The judge said he didn't give Father Vincent Mercer (free registration required for link) a futher jail sentence because he'd already served 6 months for a similar offence. Amazing. By that rationale I can kill someone, get out of jail (some time later, of course) then kill someone again and the judge will let me off because I've already done time for killing someone. Can I spend time in jail for robbery then feel free to rob again any time I like because I've been punished before for the same crime? Can I fuck, so why is this cunt being let away with it?
These child abuse cases are being treated more frivolously than people who don't have TV licences. The judges are way too soft on these fuckers. I've made my feelings clear on these cunts before. They treat sexual abuse like it was some kind of national pastime that was okay back in the day but not quite as acceptable now.
They make me sick. The dirty old bastards who have carried out this abuse for years, the religious orders that shield them and move them around knowing fine well they're just dumping the problem elsewhere and the fucking arsehole bastard cuntfaced shitbag pissdrinking wanker 'judges' whose job it is to dispense justice yet fail time and time again to do so.
I hope they all get cancer of the bollocks. And the spine.

There should be some kind of enquiry into judges who hand down sentences like that. It smacks of blinkered ignorance-almost as if the judge doesn't understand how vile and damaging the abuse is. Perhaps it is time for some judges to retire from their positions of power. Their role is to serve justice, and their role is to serve the people of this country-neither of which was carried out yesterday.Every time I see an abuser of children smacked on the wrist with minimal fines and next to nothing jail terms I hang my head in despair. Frankly shooting's too good for them.

Maybe before such cases the judge in question should be buggered till his wrinkly old bum can take no more. With this sort of hands on experience he may take a different outlook when dishing out punishments to the Fr. Billy Bummer and his cronies.

The same was true in the U.S. until about a decade or so back. Child molesters were considered by the courts as "spank their hand" kind of criminal. But, things got serious when that looney mother in California shot the guy who was accused of molesting her son and got off. He had prior convictions, but got off for molesting her kid. He never even got out of the defendent's chair at the defendent's table in the court. She shot his ass right there, just after being found NOT guilty.
Was he guilty? Not according to the jury. She did time for the murder, California courts got alot more attention to control weapons coming into them (including steel plating for the judge's desk (front part that faces the courtroom).
But, the point was made. Child molestation got alot more attention and new laws were passed disallowing judges from viewing it as "kid stuff."

Sounds like the same judge as a murder trial back in the late 70s or early 80s, when I lived in Ireland. A bunch of young thugs decided to go fag bashing at one of the northside parks (Sorry, I forget the name), and having found some poor soul, beat him so badly he died. They got six months, I believe suspended, presumably because the judge felt that the victim was just asking for it by being someplace where gays reportedly hung out.
The same year somebody got a year for shoplifting a pound of butter, which is apparently more valuable than a man's life, or a child's innocence and psyche.
Can I assume that this judge is also a pillar of the Catholic Church? (Eight years in Ireland, and I'm still a devout Christian, but no longer RC.)

I'm sure the judge is a devout catholic who does great work in his community and takes boys on camping trips for days at a time.
I assume it was the Phoenix park, Gryffon.
Don - I like that mother's style though. That's proper justice.

Don't you worry. He'll get his eternal judgment, which will be far worse than any prison.
And that's just for being a catholic.

There should be a mimimum jail term for child abusers- a term set in stone. Maybe that would deter would be abusers. As it is this kind of Russian roulette sentencing favours the guilty and not the victim. There is no real deterent right now, the chances are fifty/fifty that an offender gets a lenient judge. So, playing those odds with the odds that the victim won't even go to the police in the first place stack everything in the offender's favour. I don't think this is a particularly Catholic thing, it's a power thing, and, simply put, for many years men and women in the Catholic Church had positions of power which meant the were able to get away with anything they bloody well wanted and no-one was able to challange them.

All but the most hardened paedos will agree that it is wrong to abuse children and when caught, should be punished. I think then that we can safely assume that the judge himself is in the same club as the priest. There can be no other possible reason or justification for letting that fucker priest go.No doubt in a few years time when he's caught again someone will call for an inquiry about how he was let free, costing millions.

I would presume that to get cancer of the spine, they would have to have one, but I like the sentiment.

You must not call them cunts - Cunts are useful.

I couldn't agree more.
I posted a couple of weeks ago on my thoughts on dealing with them. Perhaps we should add some of these dubious judges to the list.

I know it's much more a power thing than a Catholic thing, it's just the hypocrisy of it. This devout Catholic(/Anglican/your choice of christian denomination here) and they just give these evils a pass, and no person in a position of authority to speak for the church as a whole ever seems to call them on it. They (the hypocrits) will have to answer for it at the end, but in the meantime the rest of us have to live with what they let be done by those they give a pass to.
And I'm pretty sure that it wasn't Phoenix Park. I want to say it was near the canal on the north side, near Drumcondra, but as I said, it's been over 20 years, and I didn't live in that area. (I was at Trinity, and lived city center, or Rathmines and Rathgar.)

Also, unlike the Phoenix Park, Griffith Park isn't known as a gay hangout.

I think fairview park is the one, it was a cruising area in the past and was known for gangs of queer bashers, who actually were probably only teenagers looking for a kickabout.Their kicking didn't only include gays though, they had a bad go at a Italian tourist and left him badly off, in a wheelchair now with some serious injuries.

yah, I totally agree.... I knew Vincent Mercer.. the man couldn't look me in the eye; had no interest in me probably because I was female...
The Dominicans tried to cover up the whole sordid affair; only the PROVINCIAL Fr Gearoid Manning, who has since left the order, made him public, against the wishes of the Dominicans on the whole.....
I was abused as a child. it took me four years, and 25 years previous to that of the nightmares to take my abuser to court and win! I won! he is serving a six month sentence for all he did to me and many others.....
